The Council for Higher Education in Art and Design (CHEAD) and the Creative and Cultural Skills Sector Skills Council are building to expand the relationships between the Creative Industries and Higher Education in Art and Design.

Professor Rod Bugg, Chairman of CHEAD, met with Tom Bewick, Chief Executive of Creative and Cultural Skills, to discuss areas where the two organisations could work together in future.

Tom Bewick, CEO of Creative and Cultural Skills, says:

"I'm delighted that we are able to build this important partnership at such an early stage in our development. Our employers and individuals know that a successful higher education sector is the lifeblood of our industries. It is critically important therefore that we develop a strong collaborative approach with CHEAD.

One area we will want to work on over the coming months is our plans to give employers and individuals real-time consumer information about the higher education offer to our industries. This will help higher education turn out even more qualified and skilled graduates while forging closer, more direct links with our industries."

Professor Bugg, Chairman of CHEAD comments:

"In order to maximise the talent, impact and effectiveness of tomorrow's designers and artists in the work place, it is vital that the strongest bonds are further developed between higher education and the creative and cultural industries.

As the professional association for art and design in universities and colleges throughout the UK, we are ideally placed to help influence higher education's offer in these areas. We look forward to working with Creative and Cultural Skills Sector Skills Council on initiatives that we will put in place new strategies to achieve this goal."

Both organisations are working together for the benefit of graduates, employers and users of the Creative Industries.

CHEAD
The Council for Higher Education in Art & Design (CHEAD) is the professional association of nearly 80 universities and colleges in the UK with degree or postgraduate provision in art and design, represented by their most senior academics concerned with art and design (Directors, Principals, or Deans (or Dean equivalents), and some of them are Chief Executives of their institutions.
