Minister hosts top flight dinner - 04/04/05The inaugural meeting of the new Board of Creative and Cultural Skills took place today. In the evening, the Rt. Hon. Estelle Morris MP, Minister for the Arts, hosted a special dinner for Board members and senior representatives of key national partner organisations such as the Arts Council England, Museums, Libraries and Archives Council and NESTA. The purpose of the dinner was to celebrate Creative and Cultural Skills recent success in being recommended for Licence and for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to underline the importance of employers, through the new Sector Skills Council, being put in the driving seat in terms of boosting levels of skills and organisational performance across the creative and cultural industries sector. A discussion took place with key national strategic partners to explore better ways, with the advent of a new SSC, of a more joined-up approach to skills and workforce development in future. Estelle Morris said: "I would like to congratulate Creative & Cultural Skills on successfully navigating the Sector Skills Council licensing process. I appreciate there are many challenges ahead, but with a board of uniformly high calibre and the team Chair Tony Hall and Chief Executive Tom Bewick are putting together, I am sure Creative & Cultural Skills will merit its place in the Skills for Business network and quickly build credibility with employers and stakeholders across the creative and cultural sector."
